October 17, 2024 – Engineering and the Environment: Designing for a Sustainable Future
In this Engineering and the Environment webinar, we introduce ways the Youth Engineering Solutions framework and curricular resources ask students to consider problems in context. Engineers must consider the world around them when designing solutions to problems and students should too! We will look at ways students can engineer for a sustainable future at any grade level; from declining bee populations to plastic pollution to climate change. This session is for any educator interested in supporting students’ environmental literacy through engineering in PK-8 school and enrichment spaces.
November 13, 2024 – Engineering in Early Childhood: Preschool and Kindergarten
Even our youngest learners can be engineers – if we give them the right tools and scaffolds. In this webinar, we will explore curricular resources that are tailored to preschool and kindergarten contexts. We will share how engineering can be integrated into existing center-based models, support literacy development, number sense, and creativity and collaboration.
December 11, 2024 – Igniting Engineering Education with the Spark of Computer Science
Join YES and Dr. Mary Dzaugis from MathWorks to explore how computer science can support engineering education. We will dive into our middle school computer science modules powered by MatLab, a programming language and computing environment developed by MathWorks, used by real engineers and computer scientists alike! We will discuss the benefits of early exposure to computer science and computational thinking through the lens of YES’s computer science framework.
Workshops & Conferences
October 22-24, 2024 – 3-Day Teacher Educator Institute (TEI): High-Quality Middle School Engineering and Computer Science
During this three-day workshop, participants will engage with our professional learning team in hands-on explorations of the middle school curricular resources and pedagogical frameworks that define high-quality engineering education. Participants will feel prepared to facilitate immersive workshops and support educators implementing our YES and EiE curriculum.
November 19, 2024 – Youth Engineering Solutions (YES) Elementary Teacher Workshop
During this workshop, participants will engage with our professional learning team in a hands-on workshop focused on our Youth Engineering Solutions (YES) elementary school curriculum. This full-day, learner-driven workshop introduces participants to the concepts of engineering and prepares them to facilitate high-quality engineering with students.
November 20, 2024 – Youth Engineering Solutions (YES) Middle School Teacher Workshop
During this workshop, participants will engage with our professional learning team in a hands-on workshop focused on our Youth Engineering Solutions (YES) middle school curriculum. This full-day, learner-driven workshop introduces participants to the concepts of engineering and computer science and prepares them to facilitate high-quality STEM with students.
